The Ambulance building is positioned within the masterplan ‘Leerpark’ in Dordrecht (NL) by West 8. The building will house the Ambulance service unit with garage space for 8 ambulances as well as 4 floors of office space. The brief was to design an extremely efficient structure with load-bearing facades and optimized floor- and coreconfigurations, as well as a highly repetitive facade with openings every 1800 mm. The pattern of the facade is based on an the optimization of the concrete cast, so that the entire facade can be build using only one cast for all the different elements. At the same time the crosses in the facade take out the ‘plattenbau’ structure that is imposed with the system of prefabricated building. The red-colored concrete give the building a warm yet sensual color.
